Falcons Beat Muskies at the Buzzer

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons advanced to the NACC Semifinals with a thrilling buzzer-beating victory over Lakeland. The Falcons rallied to reel in the Muskies with a 74-72 to improve to 16-10 on the year.

The Muskies opened the game on a 9-0 run in the first three minutes.

The Falcons went on a 13-4 run to tie the game at 13 with a layup from senior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.).

The Blue and Gold closed the quarter with the final five points to hold an 18-13 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Muskies pushed the lead up to 27-17 with 5:26 left in the quarter.

The fish swam away with a 35-28 lead at halftime with a buzzer-beating shot.

The Falcons did not fade away and tied the game with 2:34 left in the quarter with a free throw from Aubrey Buchholtz (Seymour, Wis.) to tie the game at 46.

Lakeland held a slim 50-48 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The Falcons took their first lead of the night at 52-50 with a layup from senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.). Hafemann scored seven-straight points for the Falcons to push the lead up to 57-52.

Aubrey Buchholz drained back-to-back threes to elevate the lead to 63-54.  

The Muskies fought until the end and tied the game at 72 with seven seconds left.

The Falcons quickly charged down the court and Emily Hafemann found sophomore Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) underneath the basket. Lonigro drained the shot as time expired to lift CUW to the NACC Tournament Semifinals.

Emily Hafemann scored 16 points in the fourth quarter. Aubrey Buchholtz had eight points in the final frame.

Hafemann led all players with a career-high 35 points in the victory. She also had five assists against the Muskies.

Aubrey Buchholtz led the flock with seven rebounds and also added 16 points.

Reagan Obry finished with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.

The Falcons' 10-point deficit is the second-largest comeback of the season. The largest was 15 on Saturday at Lakeland. 

The Falcons take on the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran in the NACC Tournament Semifinals on Thursday.
