Cardinals Clip Women's Basketball

SEWARD, Neb. – The CUW women's basketball team wrapped up Concordia Invitational Tournament on Saturday afternoon against the scholarship-receiving Cardinals of Concordia Ann Arbor. The Cardinals came out on top with a 67-55 victory.

The Falcons took an early lead with baskets from junior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) and senior Aubrey Buchholtz (Seymour, Wis.).

Concordia Ann Arbor used an 8-0 run to take the lead and never gave it back.

The Red and White pushed the lead up to 20 points in the second quarter and took a 44-26 lead into halftime.

Halfway through the third quarter, CUAA pushed the lead up to 51-30.

The Falcons did not fold and scored the next nine points of the game. Senior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) scored six points in the run.

A layup from sophomore Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) cut the deficit to 54-45 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Falcons hung tough in the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to nine at 59-50, but the Cardinals took the contest.

Aubrey Buchholtz led the flock with 13 points on Saturday.

Senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) finished with a game-high four assists and added 12 points. She was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Freshman Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) and Reagan Obry both had five rebounds on Saturday. Obry also added 10 points.

The Falcons return to NCAA Division III play on Wednesday against Marian.
