Falcons Run Over the Raiders

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's basketball team cruised to another Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) victory on Wednesday night over MSOE. The Falcons led wire-to-wire and posted a 68-45 victory to improve to 4-3 on the year and 3-1 in the NACC.

Junior Lily Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.) started the scoring 14 seconds into the game with a layup and the Falcons never looked back.

The Falcons closed the scoring in the first quarter with a layup from sophomore Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) to give CUW a 25-7 lead after 10 minutes. Lonigro scored 10 points in the first quarter.

The Blue and White continued to pour it on in the second quarter and pushed the lead up to 25 points on two occasions and held a 40-15 lead heading into halftime. Lily Guerra drained three, three-point baskets in the second quarter.

A layup from Lily Guerra propelled the CUW lead up to 46-19 at the 7:10 mark of the third quarter. The Raiders cut the lead to 48-27 before CUW bounced the lead up to 57-29 heading into the fourth quarter. Sophomore Rachel Reed (Shawano, Wis.) scored her first point as a Falcon in the third quarter.

The Falcons closed the book on the Raiders in the fourth quarter and never let the Raiders get closer than 22 points. Junior Carly Wemett (East Dubuque, Ill.) recorded her first collegiate rebound in the fourth quarter.

Lily Guerra led all players with a career-best 23 points. Lindsey Lonigro finished up with 16 points.

The birds held a 40-22 advantage in the paint on Wednesday.

The senior duo of Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) and Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) led the game with seven rebounds each. Hafemann also led the game with four assists.

The Falcons look to continue their win streak on Saturday at Illinois Tech.
