Falcons Finish Eagles Down the Stretch

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's basketball team took on the Edgewood Eagles inside the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse on Saturday evening.

The Falcons honored the senior class of 2023 and their dedication and commitment to the program.

The Blue and White broke out to a big lead with a 7-0 run in the first two and a half minutes of the first quarter. They finished the first quarter with their biggest lead of the game with a 14-point lead at 27-13 heading into the second quarter. The first quarter saw both senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) and junior Lily Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.) lead the Blue and White with six points.

The Eagles won the next three quarters with scores of 16-12, 20-16, and 24-21, but were unable to overcome the Falcon lead from the first quarter.

The Eagles came within two points, but could not secure the lead with the free-throw game coming in big for the Falcons down the stretch.

Hafemann drained all four of her final free throws including two just after the Eagles cut the Falcon lead to one with 14 seconds remaining on the clock.

It was a senior day success with Hafemann and senior Aubrey Buchholtz (Seymour, Wis.) leading the offense with 21 and 15 points respectively.

Junior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) finished with 13 rebounds and eight points.

The Blue and White added one more to their win streak with the 76-73 victory over the Eagles.

The Falcons tip off with Alverno on Wednesday night inside the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse.
