Falcons Devour Dominican

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team extended its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference winning streak to four games on Wednesday. The Falcons dropped Dominican with a 76-41 victory to improve to 12-10 on the year and to 11-4 in the NACC.

The Falcons came out to a blistering start on Wednesday and opened the game on a 21-2 run. Junior Lily Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.) led the flock with six points in the first quarter.

The second quarter was more competitive and the Stars cut the deficit to 26-12 with 6:49 left in the second quarter, but the Falcons took a 34-17 lead into halftime.

The Falcons blew the game open in the third quarter. The Falcons outscored the Stars in the frame, 24-9. The senior duo of Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) and Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) both splashed seven points onto the scoresheet in the third quarter. The birds also out-muscled Dominican in the quarter with a 16-4 advantage in the paint.

A layup from Abigail Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) made a layup to push the lead to 38 points with 100 seconds remaining.

Junior Carly Wemett (East Dubuque, Ill.) scored her first collegiate point in the fourth quarter of the victory. She also finished with a career-high three rebounds.

Emily Hafemann continued terrorizing the NACC with a game-high 16 points, along with seven rebounds and three assists.

Lily Guerra grabbed 11 points, two steals and two rebounds in the victory.

Junior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) led the Falcons with nine rebounds.

CUW had an assist on 18 of the 27 field goals. Erin Viergutz, Emily Hafemann and junior Madeline Taubenheim (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) all had a game-high three assists.

The Falcons held a 40-16 advantage in points in the paint and an 18-5 advantage in points off turnovers.

The Blue and White protected the ball once again with a season-low nine turnovers. The Falcons are averaging only 10 turnovers over the last three games.

The 41 points are the least allowed on the season.

The Falcons face a crucial test on Saturday for senior day with Edgewood traveling to CUW. The two teams are tied at 11-4 in fourth place in the NACC. The third and fourth-place teams play at home in the NACC Tournament Quarterfinals.
