Johnson ties pole vault record, Men's Track & Field third at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grant Johnson had another strong showing for the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Track & Field team Saturday at the Grinnell College Invite. Johnson tied the school pole vault record by clearing 4.25 meters, helping the Falcons to a third-place finish as a team. CUW also received a win in the 4X200-meter relay.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Johnson (Oconomowoc, Wis.) cleared 4.25 meters to tie the school record. Josh Lehr also accomplished the feat during the 2013 season. Johnson won the event on Saturday, while teammate Tim Zunker (Fond du Lac, Wis.) finished fourth by clearing 3.65 meters.

- It was a good day in the 4X200-meter relay for the Falcons. On the women's side, CUW set a school record, while the men's team posted a first-place finish. Boyd (Cerritos, Calif.), Margrett (Brookfield, Wis.), Nick and Spranger completed the race in 1:33.9.

- Spranger (Fond du Lac, Wis.) continued his strong start to his rookie season by placing second in the 400-meter dash. He completed the race in 51:07, just ahead of Jake Roy (Appleton, Wis.) who finished fifth at 51.58.

- Nick (Slinger, Wis.) added a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. He finished the finals of the event in 8.6 seconds.

- In the distance events, the Falcons were led by the senior duo of Zach Ziemann (Jackson, Wis.) and Michael Taylor (Denmark, Wis.). They finished second and third in the 3,000-meter run with times of 9:10.12 and 9:14.87, respectively.

- The Falcons also gained a fourth-place finish from Joe Krier (Port Washington, Wis.) in the shot put (13.79 meters) and a fifth-place finish from Tyler Martinkus (Mokena, Ill.) in the weight throw (15.10 meters).

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will be back in action next weekend at the UW-Platteville Invitational Saturday. The meet is set for an 11 a.m. start.
