Falcons Down Eagles in Final Minutes

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's soccer team welcomed in the Eagles of Benedictine on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons wasted no time after a brief delay due to travel issues pushed the start time back.

Senior Angel Uriostegui (Grayslake, Ill.) slammed one past the goaltender after a rebounded shot to put the Falcons on the board. Freshman Jaime Hernandez (Joliet, Ill.) recorded the assist on the goal.

The Blue and White started the second half off with a bang just three minutes into the frame. Junior Matthew Alcala (Gurnee, Ill.) put the netminder on his heels with a left foot into the left side of the goal to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Freshman Filiberto Saavedra (Milwaukee, Wis.) served up the assist on the Alcala goal.

The Eagles were able to respond with a pair of goals within a minute of each other to tie the game up at two goals apiece.

Both teams had decent chances to net the game-winner in the coming half, but neither could find the back of the goal.

The matchup was looking like it was going to end in a draw until senior Ivan Cuellar (Milwaukee, Wis.) gave the Falcons the game-winning goal with a shot just out of the reach of the outstretched defender. Senior Nick Hummel (Green Bay, Wis.) was there for the feed to Cuellar.

The Falcons worked hard on defense to keep the Eagles out of the back of the net and finished with the 3-2 victory.

The Blue and White finish still undefeated with a record of 4-0-2 and a conference record of 1-0-1.

The Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors come to town on Wednesday in a battle of the Lutherans.
