Lake Forest Retains the Border Battle Cup

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Border Battle Cup will remain in Illinois. The Foresters took round two of the weekend with a 6-4 victory to hold onto the Border Battle Cup.

The Foresters struck first on Saturday with two goals in the first three minutes.

CUW responded with a goal 19 seconds later off the stick of freshman Jason Tenezaca (Nile, Ill.), with assists to freshman Lucas Doran (Detroit, Mich.) and sophomore Nick Wieben (Mankato, Minn.).

Three minutes later, Nick Wieben found the back of the net to tie the game.

The Red and Black retook the lead at the 11:29 mark of the first period.

Freshman Collin Kerchoff (White Lake, Mich.) tied the game once again with assists from Mason Ausmus and Nick Wieben.

The Foresters struck first again in the second period.

Sophomore Zach Brydges (Woodbury, Minn.) leveled the game once again off a pass from freshman Dain Sardelli (Hebron, N.D.).

The Black and Red closed the game with goals in the second and third periods.

Freshman Cole Shane (Park Ride, Ill.) secured 53 saves on Saturday night.

The Foresters held a 59-38 advantage in shots on the night. Freshman Noah Roitman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) led the Concordia attack with five shots.

CUW returns to action on Friday at Aurora.
