Men's Golf Posts a Strong Season

MEQUON, Wis. - The CUW men's golf team competed in 11 total events as the Wisconsin weather canceled three of the team's scheduled events.

Of those 11 events, the Falcons, as a team, placed top 10 in three, with an eighth-place performance at the NACC Championships in early October, a ninth-place finish at the John McNaughton Spring Invitational on April 3, as well as another eighth-place finish in the NACC Championships in late April.

In the fall NACC Championships, the Falcons totaled three top-30 finishers as freshman Francisco Ascenio Beltra (Ibi, Spain) tied for 25th with 337 strokes through 36 holes, sophomore Nico Murgas-Bennett (Hartford, Wis.) tied for 27th with 338 strokes, and senior Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) claimed the 29th spot with 339 strokes.

To open up their spring season, the Falcons took ninth place with 351 strokes. Once again, Francisco Ascenio Beltra led the Falcons with a six-over-par score of 78 as sophomore Tyler Yaun (Rockton, Ill.) finished second for the Falcons with a score of 85 strokes. Meanwhile, freshman Grant Maumann (Oconomowoc, Wis.) finished third for the Blue and White with 93 strokes through 18 holes of play.

To finish their overall season, the Falcons took eighth at the NACC Championships following two days of competition on April 23 and 24. The Birds ended with 1,358 strokes. Similar to the fall season, the top three finishers for the Falcons were Ascenio Beltra, who finished tied for 25th with 337 total strokes, Murgas-Bennett, who finished tied for 27th with 338 strokes, and Sherman, who placed 29th with 339 strokes over the four rounds of play.

The Falcons will hit the links and resume competition in the fall.
