Falcons Feast at Friday Fish Fry

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW baseball team brought out the brooms with a sweep of the Muskies on Friday afternoon. The Falcons swept Lakeland with a 5-2 and 2-0 sweep to pick up to victories to stay in the hunt for the NACC Tournament. The victories propel CUW to 15-18 and to sixth place in the NACC at 9-8.

The Falcons struck early on Friday with a pair of runs in the first inning.

Senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) started the scoring with a single into the gap in right-center field that scored senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.).

Senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) then plopped the play into center field to score Haakenson.

The Muskies chopped the lead in half with a run in the second inning.

In the third inning, senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.) scored Johannes Haakenson on a sacrifice fly on a shot to left field.

Drew Johnson destroyed the baseball in the sixth inning with a solo shot to left field.

Senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) knocked a double through the left side of the infield that scored Sterling Armstrong on the seventh inning.

Freshman Zach Slome (Schaumburg, Ill.) was strong in the start on the mound and picked up his third victory of the year with three strikeouts.

The Muskies scored a run in the ninth inning, but it was not enough.

Freshman Chris Rooney (Mundelein, Ill.) kept the Lakeland bats cool in the final two innings and had two strikeouts.

The Concordia defense left 16 Muskies stranded on the base path in game two.

Senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) scored what turned out to be the game-winning run in game two in the third inning with a single up the middle that landed junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) on home plate.

Sean Tillmon also scored on a fielder's choice in the fourth inning.

Senior Ryan Green (Green Bay, Wis.) was sensational in his third victory of the season. He only allowed four hits in the complete-game performance and struck out seven batters, with only one walk.

The shutout victory was the first for the Falcons since the 10-0 victory against Wisconsin Lutheran on April 4.

The two runs allowed are also the fewest the Falcons have allowed in a series on the season.

The Falcons travel to Benedictine on Sunday for a pair of games.
