Baseball Wins at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The CUW baseball team traveled to Marian for a make-up of their NACC doubleheader that was scheduled for earlier in the week.

The Falcons got off to a hot start with a game one win with a final score of 15-5.

Senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) got the Falcons off the ground fast with a home run to left field in the top of the first inning.  Senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) sent one just shy of the wall with a sacrifice fly to the centerfielder to score fellow senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) for the second Falcon run of the first inning.  Senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) capped off the inning with a single to left field that scored fellow senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) for a 3-0 lead for the Blue and White heading into the bottom half of the inning.

Marian scored two runs in the bottom of the first to cut the Falcon lead to one.

Tillmon reached base on a fielder's choice on the same play that scored another senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.).  Beers drove in Hahn with a single to center field for the second Falcon run of the second inning. Tillmon crossed the plate off the bat of senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) with another single to center field.

Marian was able to cross the plate once in the bottom of the second to make the score 6-4 in favor of the flock.

Tillmon drove in Largent on a single to left field and Hahn crossed the plate on a throwing error by the centerfielder to push the game out to 8-4.

Marian scored the lone run of the fourth inning to cut the lead to three at 8-5.

The Blue and White blew the game open with seven more runs in the next five innings.

Senior Dillan Fike (Oak Lawn, Ill.) crossed the plate first for the Falcons off of a double from shortstop Sean Tillmon.  Hahn came across next with a sacrifice fly from Sam Beers to push the score out to 10-5.

Junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) hopped on the scoring train in the top of the ninth inning with a bomb down the left-field line that cleared the fence for a home run.  Hahn came up to the plate and batted in Largent with a single to left field.  Fike crossed the plate for the second time in the game off of a single from Haakenson to the shortstop.  Hahn crossed right after Fike once again with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Johnson to push the score out to 14-5.

Beers crossed for the final Falcon run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning.

Daniel Hahn led the Falcon bats with a 5-6 performance in game one.  Hahn scored five times and added two RBIs.

Sophomore Jack Hribernik (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) led the Falcons with three strikeouts in his six innings on the mound in game one.

In game two, all runs were scored in the first inning with the Falcons recording two in the top and Marian crossing three in the bottom half.

Haakenson flew out to the right fielder for a sacrifice fly that scored Tillmon.  Beers also crossed the plate after Kosobucki singled to center field.

Marian scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead.

Game two was started, but rain halted play.

The two teams and officials agreed to finish the game on a later date if they could not finish the games. The NACC has a bylaw that states the game is over.

The Falcons are scheduled to return to action on Saturday at St. Norbert.
