Falcons Bounce Back in Second Game of Doubleheader

Tucson, Ariz. – The CUW baseball team took on Chapman and Augsburg on day two of their Spring Break trip to Arizona.

The blue and white defeated Augsburg in game two by a score of 17-0 on the arm of sophomore pitcher Ben Spiers (Waukesha, Wis.). Spiers recorded five strikeouts in his six innings on the mound.

The Falcons notched their first run in the second inning off of a fielder's choice RBI from senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.). Senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) scored on the play.

The flock scored five more runs in the third and fourth innings combined with senior Dillan Fike (Oak Lawn, Ill.) snagging three of the four RBIs.

A pair of big innings in the sixth and seventh saw four and seven runs respectively to end this matchup with the 10-runs after seven innings run rule.

Fike led game two with four RBIs with senior Brandon Niedfeldt (Roscoe, Ill.) recording three in just two innings at the plate.

The Falcons totaled 17 hits in 38 at-bats to take home the game two victory.

Game one against Chapman saw a bit of a different result.

The 24th ranked Chapman Panthers kicked it off early with five runs in the bottom of the first inning.

The Falcons worked to cut the deficit with four runs in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead down to two at 6-8, but Chapman pushed back and drove in five more runs in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth to seal the deal.

The Falcons take a day off on Monday and look to hop back in the saddle Tuesday against Hamline.
