TUCSON, Ariz. – The CUW baseball team took on Valley City State on Friday.
The Falcons started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with RBIs from both senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) and senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) which scored senior Same Beers (Janesville, Wis.) and Kosobucki.
The Vikings picked up five funs in the second inning on a run walked in and a grand-slam homerun.
They added one more run in the third inning.
The Falcons scored again in the fourth with Tillmon crossing the plate off the bat of senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.).
Valley City State scored their eighth run of the afternoon in the seventh inning pushing their lead even further over the Falcons.
The Falcons drew two runs closer in the bottom of the seventh inning off the bat of Tillmon with a double to left field. Kosobucki and senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) crossed the plate.
Tillmon launched one deep in a last-ditch-effort homerun that put two more runs on the board with Kosobucki on base.
The Falcons fell short in the bottom of the ninth and fell 7-8 to the Vikings.
Tillmon led the Falcons with five total RBIs.
The blue and white compete on Saturday with Hamline and Macalester in doubleheader baseball.
