Baseball Opens NACC Play

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons started their NACC season play with a doubleheader against the Edgewood College Eagles at Kapco Park Friday afternoon. The Eagles took the series with 6-5 and 12-4 victories.

Concordia opened up the scoring at the bottom of the second inning of game one with a home run by senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.) over the right-field fence that also scored senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.).

The third inning saw lots of action from both teams, as Edgewood brought home one run to make it 2-1, but the Falcons increased their lead with a double to right field by senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) to score senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.). Kosobucki reached first on a fielding error by the Edgewood first baseman that led Drew Johnson to score. Junior Josh Bentley (Lockport, Ill.) rounded out the bottom of the third inning with a double to center field, allowing Kosobucki to score, bringing the score up to 5-1 for Concordia.

Edgewood would go on to score a total of five more runs, with two in the fourth inning, one at the top of the eighth, and eventually two at the top of the nine to close the first of the two-game contest.

The Falcons had 37 at-bats, with 11 hits and five runs. Kyle Kosobucki led the Falcons with two runs.

Junior Tyler Drezek (West Allis, Wis.) saw six innings at the mound, facing 26 batters and struck out five batters.

The Eagles struck first in game two with a run in the second inning.

The Falcons countered with a single to right field to score Drew Johnson.

Edgewood struck again in the third inning.

Drew Johnson singled into the gap in right-center field to score senior Sean Tillmon to tie the game at two.

The Eagles broke open the game with a 5-0 run.

The Falcons scored twice in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Senior Dillan Fike (Oak Lawn, Ill.) doubled down the left-field line to send in Kosobucki.

Senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) scored the final CUW run with a blast down the left-field line to score Fike.

Edgewood scored the final five runs.

Freshman Zach Slome (Schaumburg, Ill.) had six strikeouts in the start.

The Falcons look to get the bad taste out of their mouths on Saturday against Wisconsin Lutheran.
