Baseball Ropes In Rockford

LOVES PARK, Ill. – The CUW baseball team traveled south on Sunday to take on the Regents of Rockford in a NACC doubleheader. The Falcons brought out the brooms with a 12-10, 10-6 sweep on Sunday to improve to 10-13 and 4-4 in the NACC.

The Falcons threw the first punch of the day with four runs in the first inning.

Senior Daniel Hahn (Cudahy, Wis.) scored on a passed ball.

After a pair of walks, senior Sam Beers (Janesville, Wis.) walked across the home plate when senior Kyle Kosobucki (De Pere, Wis.) was walked.

Senior Drew Johnson (Menasha, Wis.) and senior Johannes Haakenson (Janesville, Wis.) scored on a pair of wild pitches.

The Regents cut into the lead with a three-run home run in the third inning.

In the fourth inning, senior Sean Tillmon (Plainfield, Ill.) doubled into the gap in left-center field to score Daniel Hahn.

Sam Beers then doubled down the left-field line to score Tillmon.

The Purple and White hit a solo home run in the fifth inning.

The seventh inning saw Kyle Kosobucki strike a double down the left-field line to get Johannes Haakenson and Sam Beers across home plate.

Senior Tristan Largent (Verona, Wis.) closed the seventh inning with a double into the gap in left-center field to score senior Brandon Niedfeldt (Roscoe, Ill.) and Kosobucki.

The Regents scored three runs in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 10-7.

Kyle Kosobucki struck again in the eighth inning with a single through the left side of the infield that landed Johannes Haakenson and Sean Tillmon across home plate.

Rockford applied some pressure with three runs in the eighth inning.

Sophomore Connor Krauseneck (Saginaw, Mich.) closed the game with a strikeout and finished the game with three.

The Falcons finished game one with 12 hits. Johannes Haakenson led the flock with three hits in game one. Kyle Kosobucki had five RBI in the victory.

Senior Ryan Green (Green Bay, Wis.) had six strikeouts in the start.

The Regents scored on a sacrifice fly in the second inning of game two.

Sean Tillmon leveled the game at one with a blast over the left-field fence in the third inning.

The birds took the lead in the fourth inning when Kyle Kosobucki scored on a throwing error.

In the fifth inning, Johannes Haakenson singled into the gap in right-center field to land Sean Tillmon on home plate. Kyle Kosobucki was then walked with the bases loaded to score Sam Beers.

Sam Beers sent the ball flying out of the park in the seventh inning with a three-run blast to centerfield that scored Sean Tillmon and Daniel Hahn.

Junior Cole Aguirre (Chino Hills, Calif.) flied out to left field on a sacrifice fly that crossed Drew Johnson across home plate.

Sophomore Ben Spiers (Waukesha, Wis.) kept Rockford bats silent and held the Regents to two hits in game two.

The birds tacked two more runs to the scoreboard in the ninth inning.

Johannes Haakenson singled down the right-field line to score Daniel Hahn. Kyle Kosobucki then had a sacrifice fly to score Sean Tillmon.

Freshman Luke Bruckner (Fond du Lac, Wis.) closed the day against Regents and had five strikeouts in two innings on the mound.

Sean Tillmon led the attack with four hits and four runs.

The Falcons return to action on Saturday at Dominican.
