Falcons Finish Series Sweep of Spartans

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW ACHA hockey team welcomed the Aurora Spartans on Saturday afternoon to cap off their conference regular season.

The first period didn't see much action with only four penalties and no goals.

The Falcons started the second period with two quick goals within the first five and a half minutes.

The first Falcon goal came just over three minutes into the second off the stick of sophomore Nick Roberts (Milwaukee, Wis.) with assists by junior Trenton Sherman (Farmington, Minn.) and freshman Tommy Cassel (Grafton, Wis.).

Two minutes later, the Falcons struck again with a goal from sophomore Nick Morch (Barrington, Ill.) with an assist from freshman Quinn Roadhouse (Tulsa, Okla.).

The Spartans sunk two goals later in the second to tie the game back up at two.

Roberts sunk the go-ahead goal one minute later to give the Falcons the 3-2 edge going into the third period.

In the third period, the Spartans tied the game up with five minutes remaining.

The Falcons didn't back down and weren't looking for another overtime game this weekend. Trenton Sherman sank the game-winning goal in the 19th minute to send the Falcons ahead of the Spartans for the second time this week.

The Falcons close their conference regular season with an 11-5 record and secured an at or above .500 season with a 14-12-1 record heading into next weekend's series against Adrian to close their season.
