Falcons clinch NACC Tournament spot with a sweep

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's volleyball team secured a home match in the NACC Tournament with a 3-1, 3-0 sweep over MSOE on Wednesday night.

The Falcons clinched the first match with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-19, 25-14.

The Blue and White blew open the first set at 11-10 with a 14-5 run.

Sophomore Gabriella Kaebisch (Paddock Lake, Wis.) closed the set with a kill at 25-18.

The Raiders won their lone set of the day in the second set of the first match.

MSOE was able to take an early in the third set at 6-4, 8-6 and 12-10. The Falcons responded four-straight points behind the serve of sophomore Jenna Chaussee (Chilton, Wis.). The serve of Chaussee won the final four points on the third set.

The Falcons soared in the fourth set with a 25-14 victory. The Blue and White hit .440 in the set.

Junior Sophia Collins (Lake Mills, Wis.) had a match-high 10 kills in match one. Junior McKenna Nigl (Richland Center, Wis.) led CUW with a .375 hitting percentage, with nine kills.

Sophomore Sierra Lee (Kenosha, Wis.) and junior Makenzie Vertz (Mukwonago, Wis.) both had 20 assists.

Junior Madelyn Alton (Farwell, Minn.) was an anchor in the back row with 16 digs.

Jenna Chaussee finished with nine kills, three service aces and 15 digs.

The Falcons and Raiders fought hard all three sets in game two. CUW edged MSOE with a 25-23, 25-23, 25-21.

The Raiders opened the match with a 6-3 lead in the first set. The Falcons finally took the lead with a kill from Gabriella Kaebisch at 13-12. The Blue and White pushed the lead up to 24-19 with a kill from Sophia Collins.

The Falcons were able to break free at the 8-8 mark of the second set with a 7-2 run. With the set tied at 22, the Falcons won three of the final four points to claim the set.

CUW took an early lead in the third set and never looked back. The Falcons pushed the lead up to 10 points at 20-10 with a kill from freshman Maycee Karpfinger (Wauwatosa, Wis.).

Maycee Karpfinger led the match with 13 kills and finished with a double-double performance with 12 digs.

Madelyn Alton had another stellar performance with 20 digs in the victory.

The Falcons will return to action in April at the AVCA National Tournament.
