Women’s Soccer runs laps around Lakeland

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's soccer team reeled in the Muskies with a 7-1 victory to improve to 3-0-0 on the season.

Junior Isabel Downs (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) opened the scoring in the 15th minute off a pass from sophomore Karoline Haugland (Bergen, Norway).

Sophomore Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.) then found the back of the net three minutes later after being fed by senior Allison McElwee (Laramie, Wyo.).

Karoline Haugland added to the lead in the 18th minute when she trickled the ball past the Lakeland goalie off a pass from Selena Esten.

Esten struck again in the 40th minute on a shot from distance.

Selena Esten had her second hat trick of the year with her third goal in the 56th minute.

Freshman Madelaine Specht (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) secured her first goal of her career on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.

The Falcons blasted the Lakeland net with 40 shots on Sunday, with 19 landing on goal. The Muskies finished with nine shots. Selena Esten had eight shots in the outing.

Senior Kaley Sterkel (Dana Point, Calif.) posted another clean sheet with one save.

The Falcons now turn their sights on a non-conference matchup against Dominican in a rematch of the 2019 NACC Tournament Championship match.
