HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lake Forest built a 2-1 lead after the first period. The Foresters struck 3:12 into the game when Michelle Greeneway scored, but the Falcons would tie it back up at 1-1 on a goal from junior Veronika Metanova (Palatine, Ill.) with 2:13 remaining in the period. Seniors Hannah Zobel (Reedsburg, Wis.) and Lexi Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.) assisted on the Metanova goal.
- Lake Forest would quickly regain the lead, scoring 25 seconds later. Leah Ebdon tallied the goal for Lake Forest, which resulted in a 2-1 lead. Neither team could score in the second period, making the 2-1 score hold until the wild third stanza.
- The Falcons would again tie it up as Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) netted a power play goal 2:56 into the final period. Her team-leading ninth goal of the season was assisted by Metanova and senior Chelsea Regan (Oakdale, Minn.).
- The Foresters would add three goals from that point on, gaining the 5-2 win. The game-winning goal came from Greeneway just 2:11 after Machuga tied the game up. Lake Forest would add two late power play goals in the final seven minutes of action.
- Freshman Christina Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) made 26 saves for the Falcons. She had 10 of those stops in the second period. Her counterpart, Allie Carter, finished with 14 saves for the Foresters.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Holman is now two games away from tying Jamie Athens for the longest consecutive games with a point streak in Falcons history. She has scored in every game since a December 4 matchup against St. Norbert and now has 21 points on the season, leading the team in both goals (9) and assists (12).
- The Falcons top offensive line of Holman, Machuga and Metanova has done much of the scoring this season. The trio has combined for 54 points, which has resulted in 46.6 percent of the teams point total in 2015-16.
UP NEXT
- The Falcons and Foresters will conclude their series tomorrow with a matchup set to begin at 2 p.m.
