HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, the Falcons lit the lamp early and often in the second stanza for a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes of play. Senior Katherine Pauletti (Roseville, Minn.) scored what would go down as the game-winner 3:02 into the frame on a great second effort attempt. Sticha (Lonsdale, Minn.) picked up an assist on Pauletti's first goal of the season.
- Senior Lexi Machuga (Rochester Hills, Mich.) and Sticha would add power play goals in the third period, Machuga's coming at the 11:27 mark, while Sticha scoring 3:10 later. Sophomore Lexi Holman (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) and senior Chelsea Regan (Oakdale, Minn.) assisted on the Machuga score, while junior Brandi Muller (Anchorage, Alaska) aided the Sticha goal.
- Sticha would add her third point and second goal of the night late in the third period to put the finishing touches on the Sabres. Muller again picked up an assist, while freshman Ellie Woodman (Janesville, Wis.) recorded her first career collegiate point on the final score of the evening.
- Pattengale (Portage, Mich.) was brilliant between the pipes for the Falcons in her first career shutout. She stopped 26 shots, including 11 in the final period and 10 in the opening stanza.
- The two teams spent plenty of time in the penalty box on Tuesday night. The Falcons and Sabres combined for 17 infractions and 34 penalty minutes, CUW committing eight penalties for 16 minutes in the box. The Falcons penalty kill was on point, stopping all six Marian power play chances, including a 5-on-3 early in the third period.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The shutout was the 12th in program history for the Falcons. Of those 12, four have come against Marian and all four have been at home.
- CUW improved to 13-1-1 all-time against Marian and 9-0-0 at home.
- The multi-point effort was the fourth of Sticha's career. She had a two-point game in her freshman season and two last year. Muller had four multi-point games her freshman season as this was the fifth of her career.
