Softball Finishes Florida Trip on Friday

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball program finished its eight-game spring break schedule on Friday afternoon against Saint Mary's and Lebanon Valley. The Falcons moved to 5-5 on the year and 5-3 on the trip with a 0-11 loss to Saint Mary's and a 7-8 loss to Lebanon Valley.

Junior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.), junior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) and sophomore Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) all had a hit against Saint Mary's.

Rylie DuVal and Nora Statz both had a stolen base against the Cardinals.

Nora Statz started the scoring in game two with a single to second base to plate Rylie DuVal.

The Dutchmen tied the game in the third inning.

The Falcons responded in the bottom half of the inning with a double from senior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.) that scored senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.).

Lebanon Valley scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead.

CUW reclaimed the lead in the fifth with three more runs.

Megan Bloyer had a sac fly to score Jenna Shadoski. Nora Statz singled through the left side of the infield to send in Jess Pozezinski and then junior Taylor Jacobson (Kenosha, Wis.) retook the lead with a single near the right-field line that sent in Statz.

Momentum swayed back to LVC in the sixth inning with a two-run single.

A bases-loaded walk for Taylor Jacobson allowed junior Julia Moker (Hubertus, Wis.) to score in the seventh to tie the game.

After LVC took a one-run lead in the eighth inning, Jess Pozezinski singled to score sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.).

The Dutchmen scored a run in the ninth to win.

CUW finished with 14 hits in game two with Jess Pozezinski and Nora Statz finishing with three each.

Emma Shellstrom had a strikeout in the start and was sensational as well after she focused strictly on batting on the lineup card.

Sophomore Kylie Strupp (Slinger, Wis.) did not allow an earned run in relief for two innings.

Sophomore Kylie Van de Loo (Menasha, Wis.) had a quality outing in the final three innings and had two strikeouts.

The Falcons hope to bring the sunshine and warm weather back with them to Wisconsin when they open Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on March 22 against Benedictine.
