OSHKOSH, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin softball team opened the season on Saturday against the fourth-ranked Titans of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The Titans took the series with 8-0 and 10-3 victories.
The Falcons had the first base runners of the day in the first inning with walks to junior Rylie DuVal (Elgin, Ill.) and senior Megan Bloyer (Oregon, Wis.).
Oshkosh started the scoring with two runs in the third inning and another run in the fourth.
Sophomore Jenna Shadoski (Janesville, Wis.) broke up the no-hitter performance in the sixth inning with a shot to shortstop.
The Black and Gold ended the game with five runs in the sixth inning.
Senior Jasmine Freeze (Bolingbrook, Ill.) had three strikeouts in the start for the Falcons.
Oshkosh showed why it is one of the best teams in the nation by scoring 10 runs in the first three innings of game two.
The Falcons started the rally in the fourth inning when senior Jess Pozezinski (Lake Villa, Ill.) started the inning with a single to right field.
Megan Bloyer kept the ball rolling with a single to center field.
Junior Nora Statz (Helenville, Wis.) moved the runners with a walk.
Junior Maggie Plahmer (Slinger, Wis.) smashed the ball down the right-field line for a double that scored Pozezinski and Bloyer.
Sophomore Jenna Lischka (Manitowoc, Wis.) closed the scoring on the next at-bat to score Statz.
UWO threatened again in the bottom half of the inning and filled the bases before flyouts to centerfield and third base.
Sophomore Emma Shellstrom (San Diego, Calif.)was strong in relief and finished with three strikeouts and only one hit.
The Falcons will fly south and compete in Florida in March.
