Softball sweeps NACC weekly honors

MEQUON, Wis. – The Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday morning and the CUW softball team swept the weekly honors from the conference. Nicki Becker claimed the NACC Pitcher of the Week title and Krystal Cortes earned the Position Player of the Week honor.

"This is a great honor for these two," said head coach Steve Crook. "I was really pleased with how we performed as a team at the dome. I thought that we had a lot of great individual performances that weekend."

A sophomore from Brodhead, Wisconsin, Nicki Becker is claiming the honor for the first time. At the Finlandia Dome Classic, Becker was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. She finished the weekend with three victories and 12 strikeouts while posting a 0.00 earned-run average.

A sophomore from Aurora, Illinois, Krystal Cortes is also claiming the honor for the first time in her career. In Michigan, she led CUW with six hits, including two doubles. The Illinois native was also walked twice and bagged three RBI.

At the Dome Classic, CUW posted a perfect 4-0 record with victories over Finlandia, Wis.-Stevens Point, Wis.-Superior and Northland.

The Falcons return to action on March 14 against Oswego and Millikin in Clermont, Florida.
