Softball drops two Monday in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Softball team dropped a pair of games on Monday in Florida, falling against No. 14 Heidelberg and UW-River Falls. CUW is now 3-3 on its spring trip after the Monday setbacks.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Heidelberg had its bats on display in the opening game Monday, scoring 13 times in four innings at the plate. The Student Princes struck four times in the second and seven times in the third en route to the run-rule win.

- CUW was outhit 17-4 in the opener, playing its second game against a nationally ranked opponent this season. The Falcons also battled then No. 25 UW-Oshkosh in the season opener at the Finlandia Dome Tournament, a 2-0 loss.

- Against UW-River Falls, sophomore Emily Brekke (Waterford, Wis.) dueled with Michelle LaCasse over the first four innings and the two pitchers traded zeroes. UWRF was able to break the game open a bit with a four-run top of the fifth.

- UWRF went up 6-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth, but CUW scored two of its own in the bottom half. Freshman Delaney O'Keefe (Muskego, Wis.) singled in freshman Kendra Little (Hudson, Wis.) for the first run. It was freshman Sara Rosenow (Kimberly, Wis.) driving in the second run of the inning, an RBI double, plating freshman Maddie Zazas (Mundelein, Ill.)

- CUW would add another run in the bottom of the seventh, as Zazas doubled in sophomore Christine Sharon (Cornell, Mich.). Zazas continued her strong Florida trip, pacing the Falcons offense with three hits from the leadoff spot.

- CUW is back in action Tuesday with games against North Park and Ripon.
