Men’s Golf finishes eighth at MSOE Invitational

LAKE GENEVA, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin men's golf team concluded the final round of the MSOE Invitational Monday and finished eighth overall on the par-72, 6,554 yard Brute course at Grand Geneva Resort.
The Falcons dropped one spot overall after carding a 327 on the par-71 Highlands course a day prior. Junior Jon Wengel (Waubeka, Wis.) led CUW with a 15-over par (79-79) 158 total to place in a tie for 27th. It was the second-straight match Wengel has paced the Falcons and third of the season.
Carthage College claimed the team trophy after shooting a 601 (292-309) total score to finish at 29-over par. The Red Men edged UW-Eau Claire by a stroke.
Two-time Northern Athletics Conference player of the week Brent Quade earned medalist honors after carding a 6-under (67-70) 137 total score. He was nine strokes better than second place.
Sophomore Shay Klitzke (Annadale, Minn.) finished with the second-lowest score for the Falcons with a 23-over par (80-86) 166 total to place in a tie for 38th. Senior Jesse Huff (Plantation, Fla.) shot an (86-84) 170 total to end the Invitational in a tie for 42nd. Junior Eric Hertel (Franklin, Wis.) shot (82-93) 179 to finish in 50th, while junior Ben Hagenbach (Ashwaubenon, Wis.) carded a (95-90) 185 total to place 58th.
CUW concludes the fall portion of its schedule with the two-day Northern Athletics Conference Championship beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sheboygan, Wis.
