MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The CUW football team closed their season in the first-ever Cousins Subs Lakefront Bowl on Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Scots of Monmouth got the ball rolling with 14 points in the first quarter. They added seven more at the beginning of the second quarter.
Senior James Linn (Chino Hills, Calif.) found junior Samuel Campbell Jr. (Milwaukee, Wis.) in the back of the endzone for the first six Falcon points. Sophomore Zach Heinen (Sand Springs, Okla.) hit the extra point.
Monmouth scored three more times including two touchdowns in the remaining seven minutes of the second quarter and the first three of the third.
Linn and Campbell linked up again with nine minutes left in the third quarter on a 17-yard touchdown pass. Heinen drilled the extra point.
With three and a half minutes left, Linn found senior Christian Booker (Chicago, Ill.) on a 29-yard toss to score their 20th point. The two-point attempt was no good.
Monmouth sealed the deal with another touchdown to end the fourth quarter.
Campbell Jr. led the Blue and White with seven receptions for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Linn recorded 258 passing yards. Junior Ashar Thomas (Punta Gorda, Fla.) led the flock with 90 yards on 19 rushing attempts.
The Falcons finish with a regular-season record of 8-2 and a conference record of 6-2.
