Football battles in the season opener

PLYMOUTH, Wis. – The CUW football team fell short in the season-opening battle for the Cheese Bowl on Saturday. Lakeland took the game, 19-10, to start the season 1-0.

Junior James Linn threw the first touchdown of the year to sophomore Christian Booker for a four-yard pass to the back of the end zone to start the scoring in the second quarter.

The Muskies responded on the next drive with a touchdown of their own.

Sophomore Mason Kaschinske hit a 28-yard field goal to push the CUW lead up to 10-6.

Lakeland scored a touchdown with 27 second left in the first half to take a 12-10 lead into halftime.

The Muskies closed the scoring with a touchdown late in the third quarter.

The CUW secondary picked off three passes on Saturday, including one by sophomore Cameran Atwater in the end zone.

James Linn finished the game with one touchdown and 256 yards.

Junior Tanner Hill picked up 111 yards through the air on Saturday.

The Falcons look to defend the Luther Cup on Saturday against Wisconsin Lutheran.
