#CUWStatsInfo: Football ready for 2018 season

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia University Wisconsin football team enters the season with a healthy senior quarterback and a lot of young talent.

CUWFalcons.com prepares you for the season ahead with things you need to know.

Nixon is healthy and ready to go: After missing most of last season with an injury, quarterback Aaron Nixon (North Prairie, Wis.) is back to lead the Falcons in his senior year. Nixon holds the school record for completions in a season (260), completions in a game (41), passing yards in a game (551), and passing touchdowns in a game (6). He enters his final year with a completion percentage of 63.4 for his career, setting him ahead of current career record holder Austin Damaschke (60.2).

Youth movement: CUW enters the season with a majority of their team consisting of first and second year players. There are 61 freshmen and 34 sophomores on the team, making up 95 of the 115 man roster. The Falcons will look to these talented young players to mature into building blocks for the team.

Offensive core returns: Even with so many new players, the Falcons still have a strong core returning to lead their offense. Nixon takes the lead at quarterback for his final year, and will look to senior Josh Sanders (Phoenix, Ariz.) to lead the wide receivers after posting 508 receiving yards and five touchdowns last year. Jordan Edwards (Mount Prospect, Ill.) returns for his junior season to lead the rushing attack after running for 463 yards and three touchdowns.

Defense ready to step up: On the defensive side of the ball, sophomore linebacker Dwayne Rackard III (Orlando, Fla.) returns after leading the team with 6.5 tackles-for-loss. Defensive back Jon Rauh (Slinger, Wis.) returns for his senior year after forcing three fumbles and recovering four to go along with 69 total tackles.

Familiar opponent to start the season: CUW opens the season at Finlandia on Saturday, September 1st. This is the third consecutive year that the Falcons have played the Lions to open the season, and CUW has defeated Finlandia in each of the previous two openers. The Falcons will look to extend their opening game winning streak to three on Saturday.
