Baseball ends year ranked seventh in regional

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Baseball program ended a record-setting year by being ranked seventh in the Midwest Regional as the final polls were released Monday. The Falcons appeared in each of the regional rankings, being as high as fifth on two occasions.

CUW concluded the 2017 season with a 28-13 record, setting a program mark for most wins. The Falcons went 15-5 during the NACC regular season and finished runner-up at the NACC Tournament for the third time in the past four seasons.

CUW set numerous new marks this season. Matt Schubert set the program mark for doubles in a season (20) while Scott Plachinski nailed down the saves single-season mark with nine. In addition, Dan Ranieri recorded 179 at-bats, the most in a single season as well. Plachinski also made 21 appearances on the mound, the most any Falcons pitcher has toed the rubber in a single year.

The Falcons also landed six players on All-NACC Teams, including First-Team selections in Schubert and Bryan Thomas. Thomas ranked in the top 35 nationally in both batting average and RBIs while Schubert was fourth with doubles.
