Defense shuts down MSOE in home NACC win

MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia Wisconsin controlled the net on Thursday night, shutting down MSOE's offense during a 3-1 (25-18, 25-9, 14-25, 25-20) Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory. The Falcons recorded 11.5 total team blocks in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Concordia Wisconsin controlled the first two frames with ease, especially in the second set. The Falcons held leads of seven and 16, respectively, as they jumped out a 2-0 lead in the NACC-opener for both teams.
- MSOE gained momentum back in the match by winning the third stanza, 25-14, behind a .308 attack percentage. The Raiders hit poorly overall in the contest (.032), but shined in their only set victory of the night.
- The Falcons rattled of seven-straight points in the early stages of the fourth set and never looked back. They ended the match with a pair of kills to begin league play with a victory and snap a two-match losing streak.
- Concordia Wisconsin hit .128 (37K-21E-125A) and accumulated 11.5 total team blocks. They also served four aces. Defensively, the Falcons limited the Raiders to a .032 hitting percentage (32K-28E-126A).
- Junior Kaily Moegenburg (Plymouth, Wis.) led all players with 11 kills and hit .323 in the match, while also recording 14 digs and five block assists.
- Junior Terese Zymanek (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) added six kills and senior Karina Klotz (Hubertus, Wis.) assisted on 18 kills.
- Sophomores Lindsey Casper (Hubertus, Wis.) and Ashley Jehlicka (Salem, Wis.) had 14 digs and 11 assists, respectively.
- Junior Lauren Nevinski (New Berlin, Wis.) ended the victory with six kills, two service aces and five block assists.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Concordia Wisconsin played all 16 players that dressed and 13 played at least two sets.
- Freshman Kelsey Kleba (Hartland, Wis.) played in a pair of sets and recorded two kills and four block assists.
- Freshman Megan Mayer (Downers Grove, Ill.) showed flashes of outstanding play with seven digs and three block assists.
- MSOE hurt itself with 17 service errors.

THE OPPOSITION
- Hannah Pekarek had a team-high eight kills, while Kaylie Butt smashed six kills of her own. Abby Born and Elsey Kohlman each had five kills.
- Born and Allie Laurent each had 13 assists.
- Defensively, Aleah Quast and Katherine Quinton recorded 14 and 12 digs, respectively.

- The Falcons return to action on Thursday with a 7 pm NACC match against Wisconsin Lutheran.
