Falcons Finish Fourth at Big Dawg Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The CUW women's track and field tallied 92.5 points and took fourth place in the Stevens Point Big Dawg Invite Saturday, while the UW-Whitewater Warhawks took first.

The 60-meter dash saw two Falcons finish in the top 10 as senior Jenna Zahorik (Reedsville, Wis.) ran a time of 8.19 seconds in the event, good for sixth, while Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.) took seventh with a time of 8.22 seconds, totaling five team points. 

Zahorik also took sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.30 seconds, adding three more points. 

In the 400-meter dash, freshman Olivia Ebel (Mt. Clemens, Mich.) led CUW, taking 15th place with a time of 1:05.90. 

Meanwhile, sophomore Elizabeth Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.) led the charge for the Blue and White in the 800-meter dash, recording a time of 2:41.26. 

CUW's distance squad tacked on 10 team points for the Falcons as senior Anessa Yim (Spokane, Wash.) took fourth and Abby Poehlman (Hubertus, Wis.) took fifth with times of 10:58.27 and 11:20.55. 

The 5000-meter run saw the Falcons take the top three spots and amass 24 points. Freshman Abigail Lange took first in the event with a time of 20:54.33, while seniors MaryGrace Cleinmark (Danvers, Ill.) and Abigail Van Rixel (Athens, Wis.) took the silver and bronze medals with times of 20:55.89 and 22:06.81 respectively. 

The Blue and White also took care of business in the 60-meter hurdles as junior Maya Hielscher (Macomb, Mich.) took first with a time of 9.30 seconds, and freshman Emma Eilertson (Mukwonago, Wis.) and took third with a time of 9.73 for a combined 18 points between the two athletes.  

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Falcons' team comprised of freshman Mikayla Bekcer (Plantation, Fla.), Olivia Ebel, freshman Hailey Foster (Pewaukee, Wis.), and sophomore Danielle Van Grinsven (Appleton, Wis.) ran a time of 4:39.83, securing five team points for CUW. 

Once again, Emma Eilertson earned the Falcons more team points, this time in the high jump, taking second with a mark of 1.50 meters. Also in the event was senior Auden Pearson (Kaukauna, Wis.), who, with a height of 1.45 meters, earned sixth place and three team points.

Sophomore Carly Griesemer (Slinger, Wis.) took sixth in the pole vault, with a height of 2.91 meters, also earning six team points for CUW. 

CUW continued their excellent day in the field events as Maya Hielscher took second in the long jump with a leap of 5.15 meters, while Sabrina Moore leaped 4.93 meters for fourth place. 

Meanwhile, the triple jump saw Concordia tack on 2.5 points as freshman Lorin Laney (Columbus, Ohio) tied for sixth place at 9.51 meters. 

In the throwing events, CUW was led by senior Morgan Huntley (Hillsboro, Wis.), who recorded a mark of 10.42 meters in the shot put and 11.79 meters in the weight throw.

The Falcons will return to the track next Saturday to compete at UW-Parkside before competing in the NACC Championships the week after on Feb. 23rd and 24th.
