Women's Soccer suffers Senior Day setback against Concordia Chicago

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team struggled Saturday against Concordia Chicago, falling 4-0. The match, which was also Senior Day for the Falcons, saw the Cougars score three late first half goals en route to the four-goal win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The match was scoreless until 8:07 remaining in the first half. The Cougars would shock the Falcons with three scores from that point until the end of the half, making the score 3-0 at the break.

- Elizabeth Sanders scored the first and third goals for CUC, the first on a loose ball in the box. Sanders would add a score with 55 seconds remaining in the half on a cross from teammate Emma Stone.

- The Cougars second goal was a play set up off a free kick as Katie Biga converted a rebound goal for the 2-0 lead. Krista Pojero sent a shot off the crossbar and Biga was there for the rebound for the visiting Cougars.

- The second half saw the Falcons fall behind 4-0 in the 55th minute on a cross from Sanders to Alisha Johnson.

- CUW was outshot 13-9 Saturday, but it was the Cougars ability to get eight shots on goal and convert four of those into goals that provided the difference. Each team finished the match with four saves, the Falcons getting two each from Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) and Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.).

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday was Senior Day for the Falcons as eight players were honored at halftime. Worthing, Abigail Freeland (Grafton, Wis.), Faith Palmreuter (Frankenmuth, Mich.), Kailie Van Oursow (Neenah, Wis.), Danielle Dee (West Bend, Wis.), Brittany Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.), Sarah Gamoke (Plymouth, Wis.) and Halie Schieffer (Belgium, Wis.) make up the 2016 Senior Class.

- The loss, along with a Dominican win over Edgewood Saturday, eliminated the Falcons from NACC Tournament contention. Concordia Chicago clinched a NACC Tournament berth with the win.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will play their final home match of the season tomorrow against the University of Chicago, the eighth-ranked team in Division III. The match is set for a 1 p.m. start.
