Falcons Battle in the NACC Quarterfinals

CHICAGO – The Concordia Wisconsin women's soccer team battled for 90 minutes in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Women's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal on Sunday afternoon. The top-seeded Scarlet Hawks advance to the NACC Tournament Semifinals with a 4-1 victory.

The two teams have now met in the last four full NACC Women's Soccer Tournaments. Last year, the Falcons upset the Scarlet Hawks in the finals, 1-0. Both teams have now won two meetings against each other in the NACC Tournament.

The Scarlet Hawks struck first on Sunday on a rebound off a save in the 12th minute.

Freshman Lanie Czerkies (Joliet, Ill.) started the CUW attack with a shot to the right side of the net in the 16th minute.

Two minutes later, junior Isabella Rapp (Grafton, Wis.) had an outstanding blast that the IIT keeper had to make a leaping save and just got enough of the ball with her glove to make the save.

With just over a minute left in the first half, junior Sheridan Dorge (Winnipeg, Man.) just missed the net high on a free kick from outside the 18-yard box.

Junior Brooke Braga (Belgium, Wis.) collected four saves in the first half.

The Falcons were able to weather an early storm with a pair of corners and two saves for Braga in the first five minutes of the second half

Sophomore Brei Rozmiarek (West De Pere, Wis.) blasted a missile from the left side of the box to the far post off a pass from sophomore Autumn Snow (Cedarburg, Wis.).

The Scarlet Hawks reclaimed the lead with a goal on a penalty kick in the 61st minute.

Illinois Tech added to the lead in the 63rd minute off a rebound and added another goal in the 68th minute.

IIT finished the match with a 27-6 margin in shots on Sunday. Brooke Braga finished the afternoon with seven saves and freshman Kara Claussner (St. Charles, Ill.) collected two saves in the final 14 minutes.

The Scarlet Hawks will now host the No. 5 seed Green Knights of St. Norbert. SNC upset Dominican, 1-0.

Sunday marked the final game of the storied careers of Selena Esten (Cedarburg, Wis.), Anna Gong (Phoenix, Ariz.), Katie Lacerda (Kohler, Wis.) and Sabrina Moore (Park Ridge, Ill.)

The Falcons finish the year at 6-10-2.
