Women's Soccer starts NACC title defense with shutout win over WLC

MILWAUKEE – After posting a perfect 10-0 league record a season ago, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team began its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title defense with a 4-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College Saturday. The Falcons scored twice in each half for the shutout win.

THE BASICS
- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 4, Wisconsin Lutheran 0
- Location: Warrior Soccer Field – Milwaukee
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 1-5, 1-0 NACC; Wisconsin Lutheran 2-5, 0-1 NACC

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Halie Schieffer (Belgium, Wis.) struck at the 21st minute to put the Falcons up 1-0. Her first goal of the season was set up by sophomore Kayla Schlosser (Germantown, Wis.).

- Freshman Brooke Keller (Belgium, Wis.) put the Falcons up 2-0 in the 38th minute with her first career collegiate score. Keller took a cross from sophomore Nicole Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) and beat the keeper, giving the Falcons a two goal edge at halftime.

- Senior Brittany Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) scored her third goal of the season and 48th of her career just over five minutes into the second half to help CUW start pulling away. Schieffer assisted on the Klumpp score.

- The Falcons final goal came off the foot of sophomore Mikayla Ross (Oshkosh, Wis.). She buried a shot from 15 yards out, which was assisted by junior Santina Bianco (Iron Mountain, Mich.).

- CUW dominated possession on Saturday by outshooting the Warriors, 24-5. That included a 13-0 edge in shots on goal. Senior Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) got the win for the Falcons after playing the first half, while junior Tabitha Ortiz (Plainfield, Ill.) finished off the shutout by playing the second half.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- CUW has now won 15 straight NACC regular season contests dating back to the 2014 season. The Falcons closed 2014 with four straight wins and won all 10 matches a season ago.

- Klumpp is now tied for the fourth most goals for the Falcons in the Ryan Middendorf era (2003-present). She needs 11 more goals to reach the top of the list, which is 58 held by Lauren Straehler.

UP NEXT
- CUW has a week off before taking on MSOE in a key early season NACC contest next Saturday. MSOE won the NACC Tournament last year, while CUW was the regular season champions. The match is set for a 1:00 p.m. start at Fitting Field on the campus of CUW.
