Falcons Caught Against St. Norbert

DE PERE, Wis. – The Concordia women's hockey team took a conference loss to St. Norbert on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-1 to the Green Knights. Sophomore Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) tallied the lone goal for the Falcons in the defeat.

The contest represented the second half of a back-to-back between the two squads, as the Falcons hosted the Green Knights in an overtime affair on Friday night.

Lexi Bonfe collected the game's opening goal for St. Norbert just under six minutes into the first period, finding the back of the net on a wrap-around for her tenth goal of the season.

The Green Knights added two more tallies early in the second period, as goals from Allison Jacobsen and Jo Mahlum granted St. Norbert a 3-0 advantage. The Falcons' offense made numerous threats throughout the period's duration, but was ultimately kept at bay. Likewise, senior goaltender Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) anchored down a defensive presence that prevented further action on the Green Knights' side of the scoreboard.

Spejcher's goal at the 7:59 mark of the third period cut into the deficit, sending a one-timer off of a feed from senior Amanda Carney (Ottawa, Ont.) into the St. Norbert net.

Despite continuous attacks throughout the period in attempts to tie the game, the Falcons' comeback attempt fell short. An empty-net goal from Courtnie Hogan sealed the 4-1 reading on the scorecard to give the Green Knights the victory.

Junior Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) led the Falcons with four shots in the contest.

Concordia will be back on the ice on Monday, January 22 in a rescheduled contest against the 5-13 Wisconsin-Stevens Point Pointers.
