Bulldogs Outlast Falcons

MEQUON, Wis. – In part two of their weekend series against the nationally ranked Bulldogs of Adrian College, the Concordia University Wisconsin women's hockey team fell 4-0.

With the loss, the Falcons fell to 3-8-0 on the season and 3-5-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action.

The Bulldogs lit the lamp first, scoring their first goal with 18:21 left in the first period to take the 1-0 lead.

Despite giving up the early goal, the Falcons' defense would hold Adrian scoreless for the remainder of the period, as senior goaltender Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) totaled 14 saves in the first period to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the first intermission.

CUW's defense remained composed in the second period, once again keeping the explosive offense of the Bulldogs scoreless, as the score would remain 1-0 after the second period of play.

In that period, the Blue and White recorded one penalty kill.

But out of the second intermission, the Bulldogs would strike first, scoring with 19:05 remaining in the game to extend their lead to 2-0.

Adrian would tack on two more goals in the third period to secure the 4-0 victory.

In the loss, Annalina Van Hercke totaled 47 saves. Meanwhile, junior Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) won seven of her 12 face-off opportunities.

Defensively, freshman Mackaylan McGown (Inver Grove, Minn.) totaled a team-high five blocks.

From here, the Falcons will take on the Vikings of Lawrence, a team that CUW swept earlier in the season. The first matchup between the Falcons and Vikings will occur in Appleton on Dec. 8th, with the puck drop slated for 7 p.m.
