Women's Hockey Shuts Out Lawrence

APPLETON, Wis. – The Falcons quieted the Vikings once again on Friday night with a 6-0 shutout victory. The win sends the Falcons to 11-9-1 on the year and to 6-7-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period.

The Falcons were able to take advantage of a five-on-three power play.

Freshman McKayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) struck from the point on the power play on an assist from sophomore Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany).

Sophomore Savannah Hutchins (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) then scored her first collegiate goal with a blast from the corner off assists from senior Bela Noyle (Baltimore, Md.) and freshman Jillian Tabaka (Maplewood, Minn.).

Sophomore Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) closed the second-period scoring with a laser from the Concordia bench off a pass from freshman Kaitlyn Hansen (Shafer, Minn.). The assist was the first point as a Falcon for Hansen.

The Falcons had a shorthanded goal in the third period when sophomore Megan Vettraino (Howell, Mich.) started a two-on-one advantage and found senior Colleen Gilligan (Colbourne, Ont.) up ice and Gilligan scored top shelf.

Amanda Bauer closed the scoring with two goals 15 seconds apart for the hat trick performance. Senior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) had an assist on the first goal.

Sophomore Kami McCardle (Jackson, Wis.) posted her third shutout of the season and the fourth of her career with 18 saves on Friday, including icing a breakaway opportunity.

The Falcons dominated the faceoff circle with 40 victories on 55 opportunities. Jillian Tabaka won 13 of 16 and sophomore Brooke Gibson (LaSalle, Ont.) won 13 of 17.

CUW held a 37-18 advantage in shots on Friday. Amanda Bauer led the attack with eight shots.

CUW looks to bring out the brooms against Lawrence on Saturday on Pink the Rink night.
