Falcons Sweep Weekend Series with Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey team finished their series sweep of the Marian Sabres on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue and White improved to 6-1-1 and 4-0 in conference matchups with the 2-1 victory over the Sabres.

The matchup headed into the first intermission with a 0-0 score.

The Sabres got the ball rolling with a powerplay goal in the second minute of the second period.

That would be all she wrote for the Sabres with the Falcons scoring the next two goals unanswered to take the victory.

Sophomore Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) netted the game-tying goal off an assist from freshman Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.).

In the third period, the Falcons took advantage of some confusion to score the game-winning goal while still on a penalty kill. Junior Natalia Etter (Boveresse, Switzerland) netted not only her first goal, not only her first game-winning goal but also her first short-handed goal of her career in the victory over Marian. Sophomore Natalie Mackrell (Stuttgart, Germany) recorded the assist on the second goal.

Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) collected 15 saves in her 59:39 between the posts.

The birds take a break for Thanksgiving but will be back in action on December 2 and 3 for a home-and-home series against the Green Knights of St. Norbert.
