Falcons Scramble the Sabres

MEQUON, Wis. – There was nothing but good vibes for the Falcons on Friday night as they celebrated Mental Health Awareness Weekend. The Falcons ran all over Marian and picked up a 7-2 victory to improve to 5-1-1 on the year and 3-0-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

The Falcons started the scoring in the first period when sophomore Amanda Bauer (Waunakee, Wis.) stole the puck and found Makayla Spejcher (Green Bay, Wis.) open on the far side of the net.

Eight minutes later, senior Ali Eiden (Rosemount, Minn.) scored her first goal of the season with a shot that trickled past the Marian goalie off assists to Makayla Spejcher and Amanda Bauer.

Makayla Spejcher then started the scoring in the second period when she tossed a rebound of a shot from sophomore Brooke Gibson (Lasalle, Ont.) into the net. Amanda Bauer also added a secondary assist.

The Sabres snuck onto the score sheet with a goal from near the Marian bench.

The Falcons broke the game open in the third period with four goals.

Senior Bela Noyle (Baltimore, Md.) started the spree with a shot that took an unfortunate bounce for the Sabres off assists from sophomore Erika Graham (Brighton, Mich.) and sophomore Megan Vettraino (Howell, Mich.).

A minute later, Makayla Spejcher earned the hat trick, off passes from Amanda Bauer and senior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.).

Freshman Charlotte Toor (Hartland, Mich.) scored her first goal as a Falcon with a tight-angle shot off a pass from freshman Hailey Calliguri (Lonsdale, Minn.) for her first point as a Falcon.

Marian struck again late in the third, but CUW responded with a goal 21 seconds later from Makayla Spejcher with assists to Brooke Gibson and Amanda Bauer.

Two Falcons finished with a five-point performance with Amanda Bauer with five assists and Makayla Spejcher with four goals and one assist.

Senior Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) made 27 saves in the victory.

CUW held a 39-29 advantage in shots on Friday. Makayla Spejcher led the game with seven shots.

Brooke Gibson helped the Falcons maintain possession with 19 faceoff victories.

The four goals for Spejcher tie the program record with Ally Hull (2021, Lawrence), Kristen Kennedy (2016, at Finlandia) and Natasha Wanless (2018, Trine).

The five assists for Amanda Bauer tie the record of assists with Lexi Holman (2018, Trine).

The Falcons look to bring out the brooms on Saturday at Marian.
