HANCOCK, Mich. – The Falcons secured a spot in the Slatts Cup Playoffs with a victory at Finlandia. The Blue and White won 3-2 to 7-11-2 and to 6-6-1 in the NCHA.
The Falcons wasted no time scoring on Saturday with three first-period goals.
Sophomore Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) scored off passes from freshman Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.) and sophomore Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.).
At the 7:02 mark, senior Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) lit the lamp with an assist to sophomore Sarah Tretina (Plainfield, Ill.).
Three minutes later, junior Madi Chapman (Rogers, Minn.) fooled the Finlandia keeper off a pass from Sarah Tretina.
The first CUW goal snapped a 336-minute goalless streak for the Falcons.
Finlandia scored two goals in the third period on the power play.
CUW held a 39-21 shots advantage on Saturday.
Freshman Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) had 19 saves on the victory.
Senior Issy Bilton (Burlington, Ont.) led CUW with five shots.
The Falcons will go for the sweep on Sunday.
