Women’s Hockey ties Saint Benedict

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons skated to a tie with the Bennies of Saint Benedict on Saturday. The 3-3 tie sends the Falcons to 2-6-2 on the season.

The Bennies scored the lone goal of the first period 3:32 into the game off the stick of Annika Brodt.

In the second period, sophomore Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) evened the game at one with a shot off a pass from senior Emily Godwin (London, Ont.).

Saint Benedict regained the lead again in the period on the stick of Annika Brodt.

The CUW power play struck in the third period to tie the game, with senior Natasha Wanless (Madison, Wis.) finding the back of the net off passes from Emily Reimche and junior Ally Hull (Wasilla, Alaska).

Four minutes later, senior Issy Bilton (Burlington, Ont.) had a backhanded shot to give the Falcons the lead, with junior Avrielle Schneider (Gilbert, Minn.).

The Bennies tied the game at the 16:04 mark of the third.

Freshman Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) made four saves in overtime to keep the Falcons in the game.

Van Hercke finished the day with 41 saves, surpassing her previous high of 36 at Gustavus Adolphus.

CSB held a 44-26 shots advantage on Saturday. Natasha Wanless led CUW with six shots.

The three goals ties a season high for the Falcons with the Nov. 15 victory over Trine.

The Falcons also won 31 of the 57 faceoffs, with Natasha Wanless winning 16 against the Bennies.

CUW will hit the road for a six-game road trip beginning at St. Catherine on Friday.
