Softball opens 2019 campaign

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW softball team opens the 2019 season this weekend in Illinois. Excitement is in the air, as the Falcons begin their journey on Sunday.

The Falcons are under the command of Steve Crook, who enters his 20th season as the head coach of the CUW program.

The Falcons will face seven teams that reached the 2018 NCAA Division III Tournament.

The Blue and White are coming off 22-16 record in 2018, where the Falcons went 12-10 in NACC action.

CUW returns the lone All-NACC selection from last year's team in junior Molly O'Connell.

There are 13 new Falcons flying on the 2019 team.

CUW will lean on four seniors for veteran experience in Becky Bonnin, Maddie Zazas, Sara Rosenow and Samantha Schumacher.

The Falcons open the year in Illinois, before they travel to sunny Florida. They are scheduled to have seven home series at the newly constructed Catalyst Park. The Blue and White posted a 7-3 mark in 2018 at home.

CUW was selected to finish sixth in the NACC preseason poll.
