Men's Volleyball Sweeps Cougars for Sixth-Straight Win

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin men's volleyball team notched its sixth consecutive win to break the school record on Thursday night, sweeping the Concordia Chicago Cougars. The victory marked the team's fifth straight win in three frames, having won its last 18 sets overall.

After the Cougars took two of the first three points to open the match, the Falcons stormed back, taking the next four rallies. Upon staving off an early Concordia Chicago attempt to get back to even, the Falcons held the lead for the remainder of the set. The frame was capped off by a quick 4-0 run to push the score to 23-16 before sophomore Will Wood (Savage, Minn.) sealed the set with a kill. Senior Spencer Herman (Kimberly, Wis.) notched seven of his 16 kills in the opening round of the match.

Concordia Wisconsin jumped out to a 3-0 margin to begin the second set after two kills from sophomore Tate Miller (Anthem, Ariz.) and a service ace by junior Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.). The Cougars squared the frame at four points, but once again, the Falcons did not relinquish the lead, going on an immediate 6-1 run. Miller tallied six more kills in the frame, including Concordia Wisconsin's final three points to seal a 25-16 victory. As a team, the Falcons notched 20 kills in the set to boast a .514 hitting percentage.

Determined to stay alive in the match, the Cougars battled ahead to an 8-6 advantage to begin the third set. However, a Herman kill on the ensuing rally kicked off an 8-0 run for the Falcons to vault the squad into a winning position. A series of service errors and kills pushed Concordia Wisconsin to the brink of victory in the contest before an attack error granted the final point of the evening.

The .429 hitting percentage is the second-highest mark in program history.

The Falcons will push for seven consecutive wins in their next outing against the 5-7 MSOE Raiders. Concordia Wisconsin took the teams' lone meeting of 2023 in four sets.
