Falcons Pound Pointers

MEQUON, Wis. – To close out their five-game homestand, the Concordia University Wisconsin men's volleyball team swept the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point, 25-8, 25-22, and 25-19 to move to 5-5 on the year, and 4-1 at home.

The first set saw the Falcons build a quick 14-0 lead as junior Logan Kebisek (Brookfield, Wis.) had two service aces, and senior Spencer Herman (Kimberly, Wis.) had four kills in that stretch.

The Falcons would ride that early momentum to hold the Pointers to just eight points in the first frame to secure the 25-8 victory.

But UW-Stevens Point would regroup out of the break and regain their composure, as the second match saw 12 ties and five lead changes.

Late in the set, the Falcons found themselves down 18-19 but responded with a 3-0 run to secure the 21-19 lead following a kill from junior Lucas Beres (Germantown, Wis.).

Sophomore Will Wood (Savage, Minn.) inched the Falcons toward the 25-point summit as he had a kill on a set from sophomore Tate Miller (Anthem, Wis.) to give CUW the 23-20 lead.

An attacking error for UW-Stevens Point and a kill from Spencer Herman brought up set point.

Ultimately, an attacking error for a Pointer play would earn CUW the narrow 25-22 lead.

The third and final frame set saw the Blue and White secure a quick 10-5 lead as Tate Miller and senior Andy Ellingham (Burlington, Wis.) recorded kills in that run.

CUW would extend their lead to 16-9 following an error from UW-Stevens Point.

The Falcons would keep their distance and maintain their margin over the Pointers.

The match would end as Tate Miller recorded back-to-back kills to earn CUW the 25-19 victory, completing the 3-0 sweep over UW-Stevens Point.

On top of the win, the Falcons set many records in a three-set match.

Sophomore Parker Pearson (Keller, Texas) set the record for digs in a three-set match, recording 25, breaking the previous record of 14.

Meanwhile, Logan Kebisek had 41 assists, which broke the record for assists in a three-set match, breaking his previous best of 39, which he sat last year.

In the effort, Lucas Beres tied the three-set match record for total blocks, recording eight, which included one solo block and seven block assists.

As a team, the Falcons registered an attack percentage of .287.

Individually, Spencer Herman recorded a game-high 15 kills on top of six digs.

Lucas Beres hit above .500 for the second straight game, totaling 12 kills for a .600 hitting percentage.

Following this homestand, the Falcons will take a week to rest before hitting the road to compete in their second NACC match of the season against the Eagles of Edgewood College on Feb. 24th at 1 p.m.
