Men's Tennis opens season at ITA, Midwest Open events

SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Tennis team played its only events of the fall season this past weekend. The Falcons competed in the state of Minnesota, with some players taking part in the ITA Midwest Regional, while others battled in the Midwest Open.

THE BASICS
- Tournaments: ITA Midwest Regional and the Midwest Open
- Location: Saint Peter, Minnesota

ITA MIDWEST REGIONAL
- The Falcons had four players compete in the ITA Midwest Regional Singles Draw. Of those, only junior James Forster (Northbrook, Ill.) picked up a win. Forster finished the tournament with a 1-1 record, defeating his opening opponent 6-0, 6-1.

- CUW also had two teams partake in the ITA Midwest Regionals Doubles Draw. Forster and junior Brad Guendel (Greendale, Wis.) gained an 8-3 win in their first match before bowing out of the tournament in the second round.

- Junior Ceejay Schaffner (Winona, Minn.) and sophomore Christian Docter (Madison, Wis.) also played in the doubles draw and were edged, 9-8, in the opening event.

MIDWEST OPEN
- CUW had four players compete in the Midwest Open singles draw, with senior Trevor Budewitz (Watertown, Wis.) winning two matches. Budewitz opened with a 6-1, 6-4 win and followed that up with a 6-2, 6-2 victory in round two. He would be eliminated his third match.

- Freshman Nathan Knapp (Plymouth, Ind.) also gained a win in the singles draw. Knapp needed a third set tiebreaker to advance, netting a 6-1, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8) win in his first career collegiate match.

- The Falcons also had two teams compete in the Midwest Open Doubles Draw, neither able to pick up a victory.

UP NEXT
- The Falcons will be off until the spring season where they will look to improve upon their second place finish in the NACC from a season ago.
