Men’s Hockey rallies to sweep Lawrence

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's hockey team rallied from behind to claim two big points in the NCHA standings. The Falcons brought out the brooms with a 3-2 victory on Pink the Rink Night to improve to 10-5-2 and 6-4-2 in the NCHA.

"We got off to a slow start tonight, but the boys stayed the course," said head coach Jasen Wise. They showed great effort and grit tonight. It was a great weekend for CUW hockey, all three programs swept this weekend, go Falcons!"

The Vikings struck first on Saturday with a first-period goal.

The visitors added another at the 6:41 mark of the second period.

The Falcons took command of the game from that point on.

Freshman Brandon Picard (Montreal, Que.) picked up his third goal of the weekend on the power play to spark the offense to life after picking up a rebound off the goalie with from passes from sophomore Cory Dennis (Madison, Wis.) and freshman Alex Way (Ottawa, Ont.).

Junior Cole Pickup (Victoria, B.C.) leveled the game in the third period off a one-timer pass from junior Nick Guerra (Victoria, B.C.) and senior Dante Hahn (Victoria, B.C.).

The Falcons took the lead late in the third on the power play, when senior Josh Adkins (Victoria, B.C.) found the back of the net after tipping in a pass. Cory Dennis and sophomore Luc Kreuser (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) had the assists.

Sophomore Bo Didur (West Vancouver, B.C.) had 30 saves in the victory.

The Vikings held a 32-28 shots advantage on Saturday. Cole Pickup led all players with seven shots.

With the two points and Finlandia upsetting Trine, the Falcons leapfrogged the Thunder and currently in fourth and the final playoff spot in the NCHA South.

The two goals is the biggest deficit the Falcons have overcome in a victory on the year.

The Falcons raised money for breast cancer awareness on Saturday night.

CUW will travel to MSOE on Saturday.
