Football drops non-conference game against Albion

MEQUON, Wis. – Albion College scored 44 unanswered points on Saturday at Tomsini Stadium to earn a 57-20 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin in non-conference action. The Falcons lost three fumbles and allowed over 600 yards of total offense in the defeat.

CUW (1-2) led 13-7 after the opening quarter and could have led by more if it didn't lose a pair of fumbles on special teams. Over the next 45 minutes the Britons slowly wore down the Falcons with their size and scored eight times (seven touchdowns) during a nine-possession span to put the game out of reach.

CUW did accumulate 488 yards of total offense and won the time of possession battle for the first time this season with 32 minutes and 57 seconds, but just couldn't find a way to get the ball in the end zone. Defensively, they recorded four sacks, broke up three passes and held AC to 4-of-12 on third down.

Freshman quarterback Aaron Nixon (North Praire, Wis.) started his first career game and played well with 252 yards passing on 31-of-43 and a touchdown, along with 148 yards rushing and two scores. Also receiving extensive action was freshman Terry Island (Milwaukee, Wis.) who had 176 kickoff return yards on nine attempts.

Seniors Dylan Krivoshein (Cedarburg, Wis.) and Garrett Wenzelburger (Hartland, Wis.) hauled in a combined 13 passes for 155 yards, with Wenzelburger making the only receiving touchdown of the game. Senior punter Hunter Breunig (Lodi, Wis.) attempted seven kicks and pinned the Britons inside the 20-yard line twice.

Sophomore Kevin Kern (Arlington Heights, Ill.) had a career day with 11 tackles (four solo), three tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.

AC's Mike Czarnecki rushed for 155 yards and a touchdown, while Colin Parks scored four times on the ground on 98 yards rushing. Quarterback Dominic Bona passed for 226 and two touchdowns, while Joe Mayone led the Briton receiver with 124 yards on three catches and a score.

CUW is idle on Sept. 27, but opens Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play on Oct. 4 with a 1 p.m. home matchup against Concordia University Chicago at Tomasini Stadium.
