Triathlon Takes Second in Season Opener

EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's triathlon team opened the season at the Reeds Lake Triathlon on Saturday. The Falcons finished in second place with 78 points. Calvin claimed the team title with 95 points. The Falcons and Knights were also joined by Millikin and Central (Iowa).

Senior Janneke Bannink (Shorewood, Wis.) claimed the individual title at 1:16.22. The Wisconsin native posted a 13:31 swim time, a 37:31 cycle time and a 23:54 run time.

Senior Kathryn Ousdigian (Shoreview, Minn.) was eighth at 1:21:32. She finished the swim at 15:25, the bike portion at 40:15 and the run at 23:59.

Sophomore Ashley Mayer (Kaukauna, Wis.) clocked in at 1:23:59. Mayer finished the swim at 19:31, the cycling section at 40:31 and the run at 22:37 to finish in 13th place.

 In 14th place was senior Adelyn Smith (Gleason, Wis.) at 1:24:06. She swam a time of 14:31, biked at 40:04 and finished the run at 27:45.

Senior Sara Vandermolen (Elmhurst, Ill.) crossed the finish line at 1:31:59 in 19th place. She recorded a swim time of 22:55, a cycle time of 39:43 and a run time of 27:46.

Junior Sarah Baker brought in a final time of 1:37:56 in 22nd place. She finished the swim at 14:52, the cycling portion at 47:31 and the run at 33:42.

Freshman Kaela Thurman rounded out the flock in 25th place at 1:51:35. She swam a time of 15:08, biked a time of 53:46 and ran a time of 40:34.

The Falcons return to action on Sept. 23 at Millikin.
