Softball hits the road for four games this weekend
MEQUON,
Wis. - After opening Northern Athletics Conference play
with two lopsided victories at home against Maranatha Baptist Bible
College on Tuesday, the Concordia University Wisconsin softball
team will hit the road for four more NAC matchups this weekend.
The Falcons will visit River Forest, Ill., on Saturday
to play a doubleheader with Concordia University Chicago, before
heading to Lisle, Ill., on Sunday for a pair of games against
Benedictine University.
Both doubleheaders are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.,
and CUC will be providing live stats for Saturday's games. BenU will also have
live stats for the doubleheader on Sunday.
CUW (7-9, 2-0 NAC) will be hoping to build off the
momentum generated from the two dominating wins against MBBC, in
which it combined to outscore the Crusaders 18-0 in 10 total
innings of play.
Sophomore Jamie Schuh (Freedom, Wis.) tossed a
no-hitter in the second of the two games, allowing on two MBBC base
runners while striking out 11. Senior Danielle Burke (Burlington,
Wis.) was almost just as impressive in the circle during the first
game, crafting a two-hit shutout while throwing 12 strikeouts.
At the plate, freshman Jessica Liszka (Lindenhurst,
Ill.) has been on fire in the leadoff role, posting a red-hot .448
batting average while leading the team in hits (26), runs (13), and
stolen bases (7). Senior Sarah Cochran (Bloomington,
Ill.) has also been impressive, batting .345 to go with 19 hits, 12
runs scored, and nine RBI.
CUC (4-12, 2-0 NAC) swept a pair of games against
Dominican University on Wednesday, beating the Stars by a combined
10-3 score. The Cougars are led by sophomore Taylor
Golden, who is batting .389 and leads the team 18 runs scored, 13
RBI, and 13 walks drawn.
BenU (6-6, 2-0 NAC) is coming off two low-scoring wins
against Aurora University on Wednesday, and will also play a
doubleheader at MSOE on Saturday. Eagles pitcher
Brittany Adcox leads the NAC with a 1.95 ERA, and has thrown a
team-high 24 strikeouts in 43 innings of work.
