Softball earns NFCA All-Academic team award, five student-athletes honored
STARKVILLE, Miss. - The
National Fastpitch Coaches Association recently announced its
All-Academic Team and Scholar Athletes list; and Concordia
University Wisconsin, along with five student-athletes, were
honored for their work in the classroom during the 2010-11 academic
year.
The award is given to any player submitted by a
member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher
during the 2010-11 academic year. The award is the second component
of the Association's academic award program. The
2010-11 list features 4,331 honorees, which was more than last
year's total by over 30 student-athletes. The membership category
with the most participating institutions this year was Division III
with 168.
Head coach Steve Crook's program ended the 2010-11
academic year with a team grade point average of 3.260. Five Falcon
softball student-athletes earned a 3.50 over higher gpa in the
classroom:
Sophomore Breanne Geipel (Hartland, Wis.), sophomore
Mariah Giesseman (Sturgeon Bay, Wis.), sophomore Jamie Schuh
(Freedom, Wis.), sophomore Kelly Seibel (Fond du Lac, Wis.),
sophomore Chelsie Strosina (Burlington, Wis.)
"I am very proud of our team for receiving such an
honor," Crook said. "Being a student-athlete and playing softball
is very difficult considering the amount of travel required with
the sport. As a program we stress the importance of academics and
we want everyone involved with our program to achieve success not
only on the field, but also in the classroom."
